Villac
The river Elle runs through Villac from Ayen and joins the Vézère at Charpenet, between Le Lardin and Terrasson. Villac's inhabitants are les villacois, villacoises! Villac has a lovely square and church, which has an amazing carillon of bells at 7 am and pm. Just a short journey from the gites. The Association, Les Amis de Villac, aims to encourage interest in Villac and its surroundings, fostering community links. www.lesamisdevillac.org Terrasson Terrasson has a variety of restaurants, an intriguing Garden of the Imagination, and very extensive market every Thursday morning. If you like chocolate, you could visit the Musée du Chocolate, Zone Artisanale, Moulin Rouge, Tel 05 53 51 57 36. If you are in Terrasson at the right time, in July 2010, you could enjoy the Les Chemins de l'Imaginaire (Paths of Imagination) festival. Terrasson is 4 Kilometres from Villac.
Fishing in Rivers and Lakes
The Dordogne is a perfect place to stay if you enjoy fishing! The river Dordogne itself runs through the département of Dordogne through the towns of Beynac-et-Cazenac, Sarlat, Saint-Cyprien, and Bergerac. While staying at our gites, you could go fishing in rivers or in lakes. The Vézère runs through Terrasson, which has the Etang communal des Fauries, there is fishing in the river Corrèze, around Brive and Tulle, at Coly near Terrasson, and carp fishing at Hautfort, where lake Coucou, 7 hectares, offers fishing to permit card holders only (permits sold in many shops and tabacs). Montignac is a lovely atmospheric French town, where you can visit a replica of the nearby Lascaux Cave, with its Prehistoric, stylised and colourful drawings of animals.The cave was first discovered in 1940 by 4 boys and a dog. At the end of July, the Festival of Folklore de Montignac takes place. 15 Kilometres from Villac. Cublac Cublac, like Villac, has a very imposing church, and if you park in the courtyard in front of the church, then you can visit Le Vieux Cantou, a spacious and well decorated bar/restaurant, 16 , Rue de la Liberté, Tel/Fax 05 55 22 91 56. You can call in just for drinks or have a meal in the evening, with the choice of the finest local delicacies. Périgueux is the Capital of the Dordogne, with distinctive chalky soil, giving its title of le Périgord Blanc.It is famous for its pines, chestnuts and of course its oaks, beneath which specially trained dogs can sniff out the famous truffles! The Périgueux sauce includes truffles and Madeira. The attractions of Périgueux include Roman remains and Medieval churches. In August, there is the Sinfonia en Perigord baroque chamber music festival. In addition, also in August, there is the Perigueux Mime Festival, MIMOS. 50 kilometres from Terrasson. Brive
Brive has a modern pedestrianised shopping centre, situated in the oldest part of the city! There are many popular restaurants in the city, which is the Capital of the Corrèze.You can view there many impressive, historical buildings, especially the museum, based in the Hôtel Labenche, built during the Renaissance.If you like markets, visit Brive on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. 25 kilometres from Terrasson. Sarlat Sarlat is a medieval fortified town, with all facilities, whether you want specialist shops or large supermarkets. Don’t miss the exceptional market, every Saturday. You may also enjoy the Theatre Festival, which runs in July and August. 25 Kilometres from Villac. Hautefort Hautefort has an impressive Château, which dominates the surrounding countryside, and originates from Roman times! 12 Kilometres from Villac. Beynac Beynac is situated on the Dordogne river, and its impressive Château rests on top of a cliff. It has wonderful views, and a very interesting history, dating back to 1209, the Albigensian Crusade, and the Hundred Years War, 1337 to 1453. It is open all year. 8 Kilometres from Sarlat Bergerac Bergerac is on the bank of the Dordogne River. It is one of the largest towns in the region, with museums, medieval buildings, and a new and old town to explore. On the first Sunday of the month, outside the Église Saint Jacques, a bric-a-brac fair, or brocante, takes place.
